DIY Tree Videos: Why Hire a Tree Service Company?

Best TIME to TRIM TREES? Autumn and Winter are the cooler seasons, thus a good time to trim trees.  Trees are in a dormant growth stage so there is less risk to damage or kill the tree.

Your tree is in a lower metabolic activity state conserving energy, therefore there is less risk when cutting tree limbs.

PS What is the Cheapest way to trim a tree … is to let it fall down! Use this tree idea at your own risk!

Tree Cutting Notes:
Falling Trees and dropping large limbs is best done when the frost is in the ground as there is less damage to grass and landscaping.

Removing larger Trees is dependent on where one can drop large branches safely and proximity of equipment to chip the wood for removal.

Fire Pit Times

To light any great outdoor fire one places kindling, crumple paper,  wood shavings, pieces of  bark on top and under large split wood or logs arrange in a pyramid  shape .. when lit flames start the burn, then hot embers burn down into the center igniting the inside wood.

In 1600s, European soldiers used logs for heating, lighting and cooking. To light, place kindling such as wood shavings, pine cones needles or small pieces of tree bark on top and inside of a log. Once the tinder starts to burn, the hot embers drop down into the log, igniting the inside. Modern day lighting one would use lighter fluid, or fire starter blocks.

Make a Fire Torch Log! Take a good size log, chain saw down 6-10 inches 2-3 times as shown and prepare a fire on top. Fun to do, soft wood burns faster!

Wood burns best when dry. A good enclosure helps keeps your wood “ready to use” out of the rain and snow.

Cedar Post Fence

Row of cedar tree wood posts mounted edge to edge.

These cedar tree posts have moss caps. This is because the open end grain of the cedar wood retains moisture thus allowing moss to grow.

Modern lumber fence manufacturer’s and building supply yards supply a huge selection of post caps which helps prevent post rot.

Cedar Tree Roots

Example of a row of 50 foot (18 meter) high cedar trees planted in a row.
Mature cedar tree roots are exposed on the bank side as water washes away the earth.

Cedar tree roots are good at slowing down the process of erosion by holding back loose earth and rocks.
